Initially developed as an in-house solution, the enterprise portal has evolved from a basic company structure tool into a comprehensive platform, enabling employees to identify colleagues, locate and book meeting rooms, and understand team structures, all while enriching its functionality over the years.
At the beginning, I received a modest request from a project seeking assistance. They asked me to enhance the visual design of their structure and to provide a few recommendations on potential improvements. Like with all requests, I approached the design development with utmost seriousness.
The primary task was to visually distinguish the hierarchy of employees within the company, while maintaining the portal's seriousness and significance. Given the skepticism often associated with many projects, I aimed to create a portal that would be immediately perceived as credible. This is why I actively engaged with users and gathered feedback from colleagues. As a result, we tested a vast array of visual solutions.
Everything had to function and feel like a cohesive system. Therefore, the search function, panels, and cards all needed to be in harmony in terms of style, animations, and color scheme. In the first versions, we couldn't capture these aspects immediately, but after a few iterations, we approached a version that satisfied us.
With each new task, it became clear that this was not just a simple website with a map or table – it was a system that would be used daily by hundreds of employees. Moreover, it was destined to grow each year with an increasing range of functionalities. Therefore, I approached the development of the portal and its information structure in a way that made it easy to layer new functionalities on top of each other.
After several months of hard work, we finally achieved results that we can be proud of. While we couldn't resolve all the technical issues, we succeeded in creating a comprehensible system with consistent interactions.
